With Wimbledon underway and the lawn-tennis season in full swing, there will be plenty of memorable moments. Wimbledon is considered the most important and prestigious tennis event for its longevity.
First held in 1877 by the All England Lawn Croquet Club in London, it is the oldest tennis tournament in the world. In its 146 years of history, hundreds of players have faced many joys and sorrows. And, speaking of pain, we can say that probably the biggest one was and is epicondylitis, more commonly known as "tennis elbow".
It is so called because epicondylitis is a disorder of the elbow due to the degeneration of a tendon to its bony insertion on the humeral epicondyle (the small terminal bony protrusion of the humerus in the elbow).
It is an inflammation caused by a continuous and excessive use of the elbow —the most affected subjects are some categories of sportsmen, but also people who do manual work, that involve movements of wrist rotation or lifting weights and situations that induce "repetitive microtrauma" of the elbow and wrist itself. It is a very common disorder that affects people between 25 and 60 years.
The main symptom consists of a pain in the external region of the elbow that can spread along the forearm and intensifies with movements of extension and supination. Another typical symptom is the feeling of weakness of the forearm and arm, but the epicondylitis also causes the loss of elasticity of the tendon over time.
It is a degenerative disease that, if left untreated, can become a disabling disorder that prevents performing daily activities with a significant impact on the quality of patients’ life.
Usually, treatments involve the use of anti-inflammatory drugs, physical therapies, physiotherapy sessions and stretching. Drug treatment is especially used in the acute phase to reduce inflammation and pain in the muscles.
In recent years, the use of laser therapy has also increased for its antalgic, anti-inflammatory and biostimulant effect. In fact, thousands of scientific studies have shown that red and infrared light therapy can relieve pain, reduce inflammation and retain muscle contractures. Our Taopatch® nanotechnological medical device, by emitting wavelengths of red and infrared light, can bring the same benefits of laser therapy, but consistently and continuously because it is wearable.
As reported by Donatella, a midwife who suffered from epicondylitis, the use of Taopatch® helped her to solve this problem and much more. Donatella says:
"I got to know the devices thanks to my osteopath who started treating an epicondylitis that I had on my right elbow and that wouldn’t go away after a year and a half of medical therapy and infiltrations. So, she started treating me and proposed to use these devices. Initially, I had refused to try Taopatch® primarily because I am not a constant person in daily therapies and I was afraid that I would not be able to place the devices every day, then take them off, then reposition them again. I didn’t think I could, and also because I’m a midwife and my imprint is more based on actual Western medicine and drugs and I couldn’t understand how these devices could really help me. Later, when the epicondylitis did not go away, my osteopath insisted, assuring me that I would get an improvement with Taopatch®.
So, I tried them and after two months I was very happy and super satisfied with the result: the epicondylitis went away and has not reappeared after a year and a half [...] and from there I no longer used drugs. I tried to test Taopatch® for other problems, like headache or abdominal swelling, with a good result. I tried them for shoulder pain, as well. [... ] So, I recommended them to all my family members and colleagues. I am very happy with the result I got with Taopatch®, I use them daily. Even at the energy level, I feel more energetic and after a working day, I am not tired as I was before. So even at night I feel better. I am using them on the TMJ for a dental problem (I wear braces), and even there I am seeing a very good result. So, I would say that I am delighted and I am really recommending them to everyone and for anything".
