Professional athletes are constantly looking for innovative solutions to improve their performance, reduce recovery time, and prevent injuries. In this context, an Italian technology based on quantum dots – the same discovery that recently won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry – is revolutionizing the world of sport, with scientifically measurable results. A recent study by the University of Urbino has in fact validated the effectiveness of this nanotechnology in significantly improving the muscle performance of athletes.
The device in question is called Taopatch, a wearable mini laser produced in the heart of Veneto that is applied like a patch to the skin. Its effectiveness has been confirmed by the recent successes of Italian gymnasts at the European Championships in Leipzig, where athletes such as Alice D'Amato and Manila Esposito, already gold and bronze at Paris 2024, have continued to stand out internationally.
"We have signed a collaboration with the Brixia gym in Brescia, a leader in the world of artistic gymnastics," explains Fabio Fontana, CEO of Tao Technologies and inventor of the product. "In the hardest moments of preparation, Taopatch has confirmed itself as a valuable ally to train more and better and to save energy. But the device also guarantees greater concentration and favors, after each competition or effort in general, a faster recovery".
The new version of the device includes an even more advanced nanotechnology blend that releases 250 wavelengths, 50 more than the previous version, thus expanding the spectrum of benefits for athletes. This 'button', already seen on the chest of tennis player Novak Djokovic and on the wrists of American actor Robert Downey Jr, is gaining popularity in various sports fields.
The results are tangible: an increase in muscle strength has been scientifically measured in athletes using the device, with a jump increase of 2 cm, a significant figure in the world of professional sports where even the smallest improvements can make the difference between a medal and a placement.
"We came into contact with this world in the summer of 2023," says Mattia Plati, a physiotherapist specializing in orthopedic and sports rehabilitation who collaborates with gymnasts. "The course aimed to manage posture, to keep the athletes in the bubble and, at the same time, to counteract pain. The feedback was immediately interesting and everyone reported important improvements".
Fontana emphasizes the importance of the quantum dot technology behind the device: "We use a technology that has received the highest scientific recognition with the Nobel Prize for Chemistry. Quantum dots are semiconductor nanocrystals that, when stimulated by light or body heat, emit photons in specific wavelengths capable of interacting positively with the nervous system."
The Brixia gym in Brescia, also known for being the temple of Vanessa Ferrari, another Italian Olympic champion, has integrated this technology into its training program, confirming its vocation for innovation. "What we have noticed – adds Fontana – is that the athletes are able to maintain greater symmetry in their movements, a fundamental aspect in artistic gymnastics where precision is everything".
"The beauty of this technology," concludes Fontana, "is that it is not a pharmacological support or a substance that alters performance, but a device that optimizes the athlete's natural abilities, improving communication between the nervous and muscular systems. It is completely in line with the principles of clean sport."
The adoption of this Italian technology by world-renowned athletes represents not only a success for Made in Italy innovation, but also opens up new perspectives in the field of athletic training and sports medicine, demonstrating how nanotechnology can offer concrete solutions to improve human performance in a natural and safe way.
