He is originally from Enego, but his name today resonates in the most important international contexts. Fabio Fontana, founder and CEO of Tao Technologies, received the prestigious Golden Lion of Merit at the Venice International Grand Prix, in the official ceremony held at the Palazzo della Regione del Veneto. 

An award reserved for leading figures in the fields of art, culture and entrepreneurship, which in this case rewards a history deeply rooted in personal determination. 

Fontana, now a renowned entrepreneur and innovator, started it all from a cellar, "without a penny", as he himself recalled upon receiving the award. A starting point that does not do justice to the global reach of the invention that made him famous: the Taopatch, a wearable device that combines light and nanotechnology to improve people's health and movement. 

He was inspired by a personal pain: after an accident, he suffered from chronic headaches refractory to drugs. From there, the intuition: to study quantum dots and develop a non-invasive and drug-free technology. Thus was born the small "button" – as it has been called – which today is used by top athletes and international celebrities, including Novak Djokovic, Robert Downey Jr and the cycling champion Andrea Pasqualon. 

In the motivation for the award, the president of the committee, Sileno Candelares, defined Fontana as an "exemplary example of Italian excellence in the world", capable of combining entrepreneurship, scientific research and technological innovation with "extraordinary vision and pioneering spirit". 

Enego's pride – where his family's roots lie – is intertwined with a professional path that has gone beyond the boundaries of the possible: "I dedicate this recognition to those who believed in me from the beginning, when no one did, to those who shared dreams and sacrifices, and to all the people who work in my team," Fontana said with emotion.
