Andrea Fontana is Italian GT-PRO AM Champion at Monza
A weekend of great emotions in Monza consecrated Andrea Fontana, our brand ambassador, Italian GT Cup 1st Division PRO-AM Champion at the wheel of the Lamborghini Huracán ST Evo2. Paired with Alessandro Mainetti, Fontana finished race-2 in third place, a result that earned him the championship victory at the end of an intense season full of twists and turns.
The 2025 Racing Weekend was characterized by consistency, strategy and determination, despite difficult moments such as a penalty at Mugello and a serious accident at Imola involving his teammate. Together, Fontana and Mainetti showed extraordinary harmony, culminating in the conquest of the title at Monza, a legendary circuit where they managed the two decisive races in the best possible way.
Fontana underlined the importance of teamwork and the support of technical partners, including Taopatch®, which has contributed to his physical and mental preparation path, optimizing performance, balance and recovery at every stage of the season.
A success that rewards talent, perseverance and innovation, and that perfectly represents the spirit with which Taopatch® supports athletes in achieving the best performance, on the track as in life. Below, we report the interview given to Radio Più, conducted by Marco Gaz.
Hi Andrea, first of all congratulations on the GT PRO-AM 2025 title. What emotions did you feel when you mathematically won the championship in Monza?
It was certainly a great satisfaction, the right recognition for all the work done during the season. So many people have given their best to achieve this goal and the efforts are not always rewarded. Winning was the best way to give something back to those who believed in it and worked hard.
A season characterized by great consistency and strategy. What were the most difficult moments to face during the championship?
Our championship started very well: we won the first race in Vallelunga and we were immediately among the favourites. Unfortunately, in the second weekend at Mugello, we suffered a penalty for a contact of my teammate with another car, which cost us precious points and the podium.
The real difficulty, however, came at Imola, where my teammate was involved in a rather serious accident in qualifying. He was forced to miss the race weekend and, changing our lineup, I had to run alone with a 20-second penalty during the pit stop. Despite everything, we managed to bring home two fundamental sixth places, especially in race 2, where I started 33rd because my teammate had not been able to lap in qualifying. It was a key moment: from that difficulty we were able to react strongly, obtaining a decisive result for the championship.
Let's go back to the last weekend, Monza, a legendary and demanding circuit. How did you prepare for the two races to arrive with the right strategy and concentration?
Monza was a small unknown, because my teammate was returning that weekend after his injury. We didn't know if he was 100%, but we showed a very good performance right from free practice. In qualifying, a red flag prevented me from completing the good lap for pole position, but we managed both races well: a very good second place in race 1 and another podium in race 2. It was a weekend where the strategy was not to make mistakes and stay away from contact, and this rewarded us.
You and Alessandro Mainetti showed great harmony on the track. How important is the relationship between teammates in such a competitive season?
It's fundamental, especially in championships where the car is divided. Riding styles can be different and you have to find a balance that works for both, even if it is not perfect for either. I tried to support Alessandro as much as possible, sharing my experience and helping him grow. His evolution during the season has been remarkable, and to finish at Monza with such a solid performance was the result of true teamwork — not only ours, but also that of Roberto Venieri's team and Team Target, impeccable on every occasion.
Looking back at the whole of 2025, which race do you remember as the most exciting or significant?
Without a doubt race 2 at Imola. Even if we didn't make the podium, it was one of the most difficult and intense races. I started last on the grid because my teammate had not been able to participate in qualifying and I had to recover to save precious points. I raced alone for almost an hour, managing fatigue and a 20-second penalty at the pit stop. I gave everything, recovering many positions and finishing sixth. Although it was not a podium, it was the result that really made the difference in the championship.
Winning a title requires not only speed, but also pressure management. How do you manage stress in decisive matches?
I am lucky enough to have people next to me who support me a lot, especially in managing commitments with sponsors and guests during race weekends. My team, my family and my girlfriend help me to keep my focus on the performance, which remains the most important thing.
This year a great help also came from Taopatch®, a company in our area, Vedelago, which made its devices and technology available to me to feel better and to perform better during the races. I also have to thank Fabio Fontana and Mattia Plati who have followed me during this season because their support has certainly been an important and winning element of our championship.
We look to the future. What are your next goals in the world of motorsport?
We received an invitation, right after winning the championship, to participate in the Lamborghini World Finals, which will be held in Misano on November 7, 8 and 9. It is the most important event of the year for Automobili Lamborghini, where the best drivers from the European, American and Asian championships compete for the world title. I already had the honor of winning the world championship in 2016, again on a Lamborghini, and now we are working hard to find the necessary budget and involve our partners in this project. The Italian title is a great achievement, but we want to aim even higher.
What does it mean to you, on a personal and professional level, to have won this title?
It is an important piece of my career. Every season serves to take stock, and winning a championship means that the direction taken is the right one. Ours is a complex sport, where not only the performance of the driver counts, but also the quality of the vehicle, the team and the technical preparation. When everything works and the result arrives, it is the greatest satisfaction: being able to thank those who support you, those who believe in you and those who allow you to carry out this project.
Thank you Andrea, and good luck for Misano and for your next goals!
Thank you! I hope to be able to get back on track in a few days and maybe bring home, here in the Belluno area, an even more prestigious title.
