Second gold medal for Federica Brignone. After Thursday's success in the super G, the Aosta Valley athlete repeated herself in the giant slalom. In the lead after the initial heat, in the second the 35-year-old repeated herself, crossing the finish line in 2'13"50, with an advantage of 62 hundredths over the Swedish Hector and the Norwegian Stjernesund, silver on equal merit.

In Italy there is even a bit of regret because the Friulian Lara Della Mea, author of a great comeback in the second downhill, finished fourth just 5 hundredths from the podium. After the beautiful first run in which she was third, the Lombard Sofia Goggia struggled in the second, finishing tenth at 87 hundredths.

Asja Zenere's performance was also excellent: the Vicenza native, who had closed the first run in 22nd position at 1"90 from the top, recovered eight places to finish 14th at 1'13" from the winner. The 29-year-old from Enego, making her debut at the Olympic Games, had an excellent second downhill, setting the best time in the heats and thus being able to archive the experience in Cortina with a big smile.

Comeback, courage and a final all in thrust. In the Olympic giant slalom in Cortina Asja Zenere takes the top 15 with a growing race that leads her to finish 14th, also signing the best time of the heats in the second run.

The champion from Enego builds her race "door by door", as in a run-up that takes shape along the entire second run: more confidence, more aggressiveness and an evident progression especially in the final stretch, where she manages to really make the difference and complete a comeback of 8 positions. A performance of enormous specific weight given the Olympic context and a result that certifies the potential of this athlete who with a little continuity could aim to stay permanently in the top ten.

All of Italy is celebrating: Federica Brignone wins the gold medal and hits the second title in these 2026 Winter Olympics. At the foot of the podium another Italian Lara Della Mea, fourth. Sofia Goggia is also in the top ten.

CORTINA D'AMPEZZO (BL) – "Tempone" and a good climb in the standings for Asja Zenere in the second run of the Olympic Giant Slalom in Cortina: the Vicenza athlete transplanted to Valsassina recovers many positions going from the twentieth place conquered in the first fraction this morning to the fourteenth final in the race won by a legendary Federica Brignone.

Zenere finished 1 second and 13 hundredths behind the Aosta Valley "Tiger", just 51 hundredths from the podium on which the Swede Sara Hector and Thea Louise Stjernesund, Slovenian (+0'62) climbed – second with the same time. The Barzian even obtained the best time of the second heat with a sensational 1:09.50. Which for the record is a time 37 hundredths better than the one set by Brignone!

Entering the top 15 of the ranking guarantees – in addition to general satisfaction – also Olympic points.

Congratulations come from the municipal administration of Barzio to the young woman of Venetian origin, who has been living in the Plateau for years: "Proud of – declares to Valsassinanews the mayor Andrea Ferrari -. An amazing performance, especially in the final heat: very good, Asja, and thank you!". Also from our editorial staff very warm congratulations to Zenere, for a test that places her in the elite of world skiing.

Eight-place comeback in the second run

Best time in the decisive run at the Olympic debut

BARZIO – The Municipality of Barzio congratulates the "fellow countryman" Asja Zenere, who won 14th place in the Olympic giant slalom at the end of a comeback race.

Born in 1996, originally from Bassano del Grappa but Barzian by adoption (she lives and trains in the town of Valsassina) Zenere started skiing as a child with her family. During his career he has faced several injuries, but has managed to return to the track and compete at high levels each time.

In the Olympic giant slalom, held today, the Italian closed the first run in 22^ position at 1.90 from the top. A race that initially saw it slightly contracted, but then progressively looser: Zenere, however, found more and more feeling with the track, signing a top 15 partial in the last segment of the race.

The second heat was decisive, set with greater confidence and aggressiveness. A run-up built door after door, with an evident progression especially in the final stretch, where she managed to make the difference and complete a comeback of eight positions, closing 14^ at 1.13.

The race saw Federica Brignone win the Olympic gold medal also in the giant slalom after the resounding success in the Super G, ahead of Sweden's Sara Hector and Norway's Thea Louise Stjernesund, silver on equal merit. A medal missed by Lara Della Mea, fourth just five hundredths of a second from the podium. Sofia Goggia, on the other hand, finished tenth at 87 hundredths.

For Zenere, at his Olympic debut, the result obtained marks a personal goal and at the same time becomes a source of pride for Valsassina and for the entire Lecco area.

In the Cortina of the legendary Brignone also shines the light of Asja

While the Olympics in the space of a few hours have given us two golds, a silver and a bronze, Valsassina can also rejoice and greet its champion, that Asja Zenere transplanted here from Veneto for love, who today made the second run of the Olympic giant slalom her own.

A sensational performance that is accompanied by an exceptional team result that could have been even more substantial if Lara Della Mea (hats off to the Tarvisian) had not left on the course those few hundredths that would have ensured her a historic and well-deserved podium.

But, as written, Asja Zenere has accomplished a feat that will remain hidden among the statistics but, we are sure, destined to remain forever etched in her memory.

Well done Asja. Congratulations and thank you for giving us so many emotions!
