Back Pain and new technologies

During a recent episode of "On the wings of health", a Canale Italia broadcast conducted by Stefano Mion and Alessandra Rossi, Dr. Fabio Fontana, Dr. Mattia Plati (physiotherapist), Dr. Marco Castellano (osteopathic physiotherapist), Dr. Andrea Fabris (nanobiologist), and Dr. Daniele Cornaglia (osteopathic physiotherapist and posturologist) discussed extensively a topic that touches (or has touched) almost everyone: back pain and the new technologies available to solve it.

Back Pain: Why is it the "Disease of the Century"?

Back pain is often referred to as the "disease of the century." Not because of its severity, but because of its very high frequency. Statistics indicate that 85% of people experience at least one acute episode. It is a transversal disease that affects both children and adults and the elderly, with a significant increase among people over 45.

The Causes of Back Pain Today: A Paradigm Shift

The causes of back pain have changed greatly over time. In the 1950s, problems were often related to intense physical exertion and punctual overloads, such as those of farmers lifting weights. Today, however, the main cause is linked to our modern lifestyle. We walk less and sit much more. It is estimated that a person can spend 4 to 5 hours a day sitting between meals, car journeys and watching TV, to which are then added the working hours for those who sit in front of a computer (another 6-8 hours). These incorrect postures, both at work and in daily life, become a "dramatic" problem. They not only cause acute blockages, but generate chronic problems that wear out and inflame the tissues of the spine, making acute events increasingly likely.

This change explains why traditional therapies, such as anti-inflammatory drugs or some physical therapies, which focus only on inflammation and the symptom, lose some sense. The event is no longer a single episode that ended in time, but an ongoing problem due to constant overload. The real key to treatment is to change posture and better distribute the loads on the spine.

Taopatch® nanotechnology: an innovative approach

In this context, the Taopatch® nanotechnology, invented by Dr. Fabio Fontana, emerges. This technology releases wavelengths of therapeutic light that detension contracted parts of the body.

Applied to specific points in the spine or to areas with many nerve endings, Taopatch® stimulates the nervous system and promotes the production of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) by cells exposed to light, thus increasing the availability of energy. This process improves cellular metabolism, with detensioning and anti-inflammatory effects. In addition, the activation of the nervous system contributes to better communication between the brain and the area involved, facilitating motor control and promoting functional recovery.

The fundamental innovation of nanotechnology is its ability to change posture extremely quickly. Unlike a medicine that focuses only on the symptom, this technology acts on the root cause of many spinal pains. The effect is often instantaneous.

Clinical Evidence and Advantages

A study conducted in collaboration with Professor Giuseppe Messina on over 500 patients evaluated the effectiveness of the Taopatch® device in reducing acute pain. Using pain rating scales (such as the VAS scale, considered the gold standard), the study demonstrated a reduction of more than 50% in pain intensity already in the very short term, i.e. within the outpatient session itself. These data were statistically significant. Interestingly, the response to treatment was identical for both male and female patients of all ages.

There are many benefits to using Taopatch®:

  • Acceleration of rehabilitation: If many sessions were previously necessary, with this nanotechnology the time can be reduced by at least 80%.
  • Stabilization of results: Everything done with manual therapy is stabilized and made more durable over time by nanotechnology (which improves the body's  "control unit").
  • Absence of medication: The device does not release chemicals and does not interfere with other therapies.
  • Treatment of various pathologies: It is effective for back pain, neck pain, lower back pain, sciatica, postural problems related to a sedentary lifestyle.
  • Specific applications: It is successfully used in the world of sport (it is not doping, it can improve performance and reduce heart rate) and in pediatrics for scoliotic attitudes or myogenic torticollis.
  • Cheapest therapy: Low back pain has high costs, causing millions of hours of absence from work. Taopatch®, lasting 3 years, is cheaper in the long term than other continuous therapies and can reduce these costs.

The Importance of the Professional

Taopatch® nanotechnology is distributed exclusively through qualified specialists. Choosing the right professional, who knows how to use technology according to the specific pathology (from neurology to speech therapy, psychology, physiotherapy, osteopathy, dentistry), is essential. Only the professional, through specific tests, can choose the most suitable model and the correct points of application. Currently, Tao Technologies has over 4000 qualified professionals throughout Italy.
