Taopatch® and chronic pain: what the scientific study says

Pain is one of the main reasons why people seek medical attention. It is estimated that about 25% of the general population suffers from it, with a higher prevalence among the elderly.
However, more than 40% of patients with primary pain report insufficient relief with currently available therapies on the market. Conventional drug therapies, such as opioids, can result in debilitating side effects and often do not offer a sustainable solution.
Additionally, chronic and persistent pain can have a significant impact on a person's physical and mental well-being, compromising quality of life and increasing the risk of long-term disability.
In this context of research into new solutions for pain management, interest in innovative approaches, such as those based on Taopatch® nanotechnology, emerges. The mini light therapy laser is made from nanocrystals (quantum dots) with the unique ability to convert sunlight and body heat (infrared photons) into wavelengths similar to those used in low-level laser therapy (LLLT) or ultra-low-level laser therapy, also known as photobiomodulation.
The study on the effects of Taopatch® on pain
The study Acute Effects of Nanotechnological Devices for the Muscle and Joint Pain Treatment, published in the scientific journal Engineering Methodologies for Medicine and Sports by Springer, evaluated the effectiveness of Taopatch® in the treatment of muscle, joint and neuralgic pain.
The study involved 570 subjects (336 women and 234 men) recruited from physiotherapy centers and doctors. Most of the study participants suffered from back pain (25%) and neck pain (22%). Other types of pain included pain in the shoulders (12%), lower extremities (14%), head (11%), upper extremities (6%), pelvis (6%), trunk (2%), and diffuse pain (2%).
The devices were applied at standard points: under C7 posteriorly and on the xiphoid process anteriorly. Additional devices could be placed at the point of pain. Pain intensity was assessed using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), a one-dimensional instrument considered standard for pain assessment. Patients rated their perceived pain level on a scale of 0 to 10 cm, with 0 being "no pain" and 10 being "worst pain imaginable." The evaluation was carried out before the application of the device and after two hours of treatment.
Results of the study
The results of the study showed that after only two hours of regular application of the nanodevice, the mean VAS value decreased statistically significantly by 50% (p < 0.001). The average VAS value went from 7.12 ± 2.08 to 3.55 ± 2.29. This greater than 50% reduction in pain was achieved without the use of medication.
Analyzing the results by gender, the pre-treatment VAS value was higher in women than in men (7.42 vs 6.84). However, the intensity of improvement at the end of treatment was similar in both genders: women had an average reduction of 51% (p < 0.001) and men had a 50% reduction (p < 0.001).
Even when analyzing the results by age group, statistically significant improvements were recorded in all categories considered. Efficacy ranged from 44% in the 70-79 age group to 55% in the 20-29 and 40-49 age groups.
Considering the different sites of pain, all anatomical areas showed statistically significant improvements in pain perception after treatment. The areas with the greatest percentage reduction in pain were the back (55%) and head (54%). Other areas showed significant reductions, such as shoulders and neck (50%), pelvis (49%), lower limbs (46%), widespread pain (45%), upper limbs (43%), and trunk (33%).
Taopatch® confirms itself as an innovative solution
Pain is a complex phenomenon and its management remains a significant challenge, but Taopatch's® effectiveness in reducing various types of pain in different areas of the body and demographics, confirms what we have known for some time. In the last 12 years we have seen how the application of nanotechnology has made a difference in thousands of people, demonstrating that photobiomodulation represents a real frontier for nanomedicine in pain management.
